Wuhan, China – Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today hosted a mass production ceremony for its new Gen 10.5 liquid crystal glass substrate plant in Wuhan, Hubei Province. The factory is adjacent to the local Wuhan factory of BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd. (BOE). This is another milestone for Corning to strengthen its business development in China and deepen its partnership with industry leaders. With the official mass production of the factory and the relaxation of regional epidemic prevention policies, Corning held a mass production ceremony today.
The high-volume Wuhan plant helps Corning supply BOE with Gen 10.5 glass substrates measuring approximately 3 meters by 3 meters for the manufacture of large-size Display panels. The 10.5-generation glass substrate can provide the most economical cutting solution for 65-inch and 75-inch TVs. In the next few years, this generation of glass substrates will occupy a large share of the growth of the display glass market. The large-size TV market of 65 inches and above is expected to grow at a double-digit CAGR through 2024.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 outbreak, Corning began delivering samples from the Wuhan plant to BOE in January 2020, and achieved mass production in the latter part of the production line in mid-2020. The Wuhan plant is Corning’s sixth LCD glass substrate production plant in mainland China, and the second Gen 10.5 LCD glass substrate plant after the Hefei plant in Anhui Province, which was put into operation in 2018.
